Coalition Guest Commentary - Rep. Henry E. Brown: Protecting the Sanctity of Christmas

This holiday season, I am perplexed by the mounting discussion surrounding the ‘proper' way to commemorate December 25th. Why are we hard-pressed to say ‘Season's Greetings' or ‘Happy Holidays' yet, urged to avoid pronouncing the Christmas holiday and steered away from wishing others ‘Merry Christmas'?

I am troubled by the growing sentiment that the phrase ‘Merry Christmas' is not appropriate and I am worried that attempts to celebrate a ‘politically correct' holiday season may cause the loss of some of the traditions sacred to this widely celebrated holiday.

I recognize that there are many religions that celebrate a variety of holidays this month and in accordance with the First Amendment, I believe it is important to preserve the right for everyone to worship as they believe. As a Christian, I feel it is also important that I have the right to celebrate Christmas and observe its significance as a national holiday and I strongly believe that wishing someone ‘Merry Christmas' should never be met with disapproval... Republicans Vote a Resounding NO to Dems' Omnibus Bill

The Christian Coalition of America will be rewarding those 28 Democrats -- who joined every single Republican in the House of Representatives voting yesterday -- with a positive score in its next Christian Coalition of America Congressional Scorecard regarding the bloated and pork-filled Omnibus money bill the House Democrats passed by a margin of 221-202 (with one Democrat voting president, ala state senator Barack Obama who voted present numerous times worried about his political viability if he took a position on many issues; 7 Democrats and 3 Republicans did not vote.)

Voting for this gigantic spending bill is an absolute disgrace besides the fact that provisions in the bill attack the American family and our culture. The official name of the bill is the "Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY 2010," H.R. 3288. The reason the Democrats call it a "consolidated" spending bill or an "omnibus" spending bill is that they could not get their job done, as they promised they would, repeatedly, during the 2006 and 2008 campaigns. They got only 5 of the 12 spending bills signed into law this year, a record worse than most Republican Congresses... (Read More)

Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid Has Incredible Chutzpah

Senator Harry Reid, leader of the left-wing Democrats in the United States Senate, must be frightened about his reelection next year and about the several Republican challengers in Nevada who have a good-size lead over him in the polls. He is desperate to get some kind of ObamaCare passed before Christmas and he cannot find the 60 votes to get a Senate floor vote on this socialized medicine scheme.

Because of pressures like these, or out of pure stupidity, he went on the Senate floor on Monday and with some of the greatest chutzpah ever seen on the Senate floor insulted the Republican Senators and the Republican Party. Indeed, Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss from Georgia said apparently Senate Majority Leader Reid is beginning "to crack."

Senator Reid first complained that the Republicans were trying to stop the ObamaCare bill because all they can do is say no. Reid then pretended that socialized medicine is something the American people want and the Republicans are trying to stop the bill from passing... (Read More)

Cover-ups at Obama's Justice Department

Americans were outraged when they saw the New Black Panther Party intimidating voters in Philadelphia -- of all places -- into not voting for Senator John McCain on the presidential election day last year. Unfortunately, Eric Holder who heads Barack Obama's Justice Department, did not see much wrong with such voter intimidation as long as these thugs benefited his patron.

According to Sunday's "The Washington Times," editorial entitled "Justice thwarts Black Panther subpoenas," the "Obama team is covering up voter-intimidation evidence." The case involves Black Panthers at a Philadelphia voting place last year intimidating and participating "in racially charged activities." Career attorneys at the Justice Department prepared a case against the Black Panthers and a judge was ready to enter a default judgment against them.

Yet Obama's Attorney General Holder all of a sudden made a decision to drop three of the four cases against the Black Panthers. The fourth Black Panther basically got a slap on the wrist when he and the others could have received up to one year in jail and a fine... (Read More)
